THE POWER OF A STORY

Brian Daniels writes plays with insight and humour that tap into emotional and sometimes traumatic experiences that address contemporary issues in healthcare, social care, and society. They are all inspired by true stories.

The titles of the plays in Pluto Play Productions’ portfolio are listed in this section under appropriate theme headings. A brief outline of the story is included under each play title with links to more in-depth descriptions and details on how to become a host of the play and dates of upcoming performances.

Topics covered in the plays are far-ranging and include experiences on the dementia journey; complex issues around life-limiting illness and palliative care; child abuse; health and care challenges faced by older people; how health professionals should introduce themselves to their patients; young male suicide and the stresses around being a medical doctor, especially during the covid pandemic. Discussions with the audiences after each performance provide a unique forum for promoting critical thinking, exchanging ideas, and prompting individual contributions.

Pluto Play Productions is supported by an ensemble of professional directors and actors that bring the stories to life. The plays are staged in radio-style where the actors sit facing the audience and read from the script in-hand. They are performed in theatres, universities, hospitals, hospices, medical schools, community centres and at conferences and during the covid pandemic, have successfully adapted to online performances. The plays reach into people at a deep emotional level enabling introspection and encouragement for initiating change, both individually and collectively.
